Year 5 Pottery Workshop: A Day of Creativity with Guildford Pottery
Year 5 pupils had an unforgettable experience during a pottery workshop led by the talented artists Paul and Wing from Guildford Pottery. The dynamic duo designed a jam-packed day that was brimming with creativity, excitement, and, of course, plenty of clay!
The workshop introduced pupils to two key pottery techniques: slab building and pot throwing. The slab-building activity challenged their design skills as they crafted parts of a horse using flat pieces of clay, showcasing their imagination and attention to detail. Pupils were also thrilled to try their hand at the potter’s wheel—a completely new experience for many. The joy on their faces as they watched their pots take shape was truly priceless!
Paul and Wing are no strangers to extraordinary creations. Alongside running pottery workshops in Guildford, they create ceramic pieces for TV and film productions. Recently, they made marmalade jars for the new Paddington film and crafted plates, teapots, and cups for Wicked. The pupils were fascinated to learn about their work behind the scenes of such beloved productions!
The atmosphere throughout the day was alive with laughter, collaboration, and endless creativity. Paul and Wing’s guidance and encouragement inspired everyone to explore their artistic potential, leaving the pupils buzzing with excitement about their achievements.
This workshop was a memorable experience for our young artists. Year 5 will undoubtedly cherish the skills they’ve learned and the fun they’ve had for a long time to come.
