Learning at GHS

Our Junior School is a special place to learn. The girls thrive in our buzzy, creative school where no two days are the same; author visits, workshops, gym displays, music competitions, trips, drama and much more all exist alongside a packed curriculum. We aim to instil an enthusiasm for knowledge which will support and enhance their learning as they progress through school.

It’s cool to learn at GHS! Our lessons are really fun and our teachers are amazing.

Our girls love to learn. Lessons are stimulating and make use of technology, when appropriate, to support learning.

In the Junior School girls study a broad and exciting curriculum of 14 fast-paced subjects. Subjects such as Science, Art, Music and Computer Science are timetabled every week and girls study a variety of languages including Spanish, French and German.

The breadth and depth of the curriculum sets GHS apart.

We place great emphasis on practical learning and problem solving, encouraging girls to be inquisitive, exploring topics to gain greater understanding and to think for themselves. We aim to instil an enthusiasm for knowledge which will support and enhance their learning as they progress through school. Topics are brought to life through inspirational teaching, frequent workshops and exciting trips. From our Reception girls learning about the seasons in Stoke Park to Year 3 finding out about the Romans at Fishbourne Palace, trips help to fire the imagination and add an extra dimension to classroom based learning.

Our teachers are inspirational, kind and caring. They make every lesson fun.

We are particularly proud of the exceptional teaching provided in the Junior School which sees specialist subject teachers deliver topics such as Maths, Languages, Science, PE, RE, Art and Music. Our Senior School teachers teaching A Levels in their specialism also teach our older girls in PE, Religious Studies, Classics and Languages. This specialism, combined with the best mix of traditional and innovative teaching methods, underpins an approach which drives accelerated progress.

Our National Curriculum assessment (SATs) results place us amongst the top schools nationally and, in 2022, we were named Independent Preparatory School of the Decade by The Sunday Times.
