The House system is hugely popular at Guildford High School and we have six Houses – Amethyst, Emerald, Opal, Ruby, Sapphire and Topaz. They create an extra layer of belonging to the school community and provide pupils with excellent opportunities to mix with other years in a variety of fun Inter-House competitions and events.

Lunchtimes are frequently filled with laughter and cheers as pupils compete at Inter-House baking, football and quizzes, to name but a few. The recent introduction of human House Hungry Hippos has proved incredibly popular and is quite a sight to behold!

Highlights of the ‘House Year’ are the House Song competition, where each House unites to perform a pop classic in their own unique GHS style, and Sports Day, where House spirit comes to the fore and every event is loudly supported.

Members of the Sixth Form have the opportunity to get involved in the leadership of the Houses; the House Captains and Vice-Captains play a vital role in shaping the character of their House and inspiring pupils to challenge for the House Cup, awarded at the end of each academic year.
