Sporting Achievements

During the academic year 2022-23 our school sports teams have continued to aim high and yet again, for the tenth consecutive year, we have been ranked in the top three girls’ school for sporting attainment in the national School Sport magazine.

They are one of the most successful sporting girls’ schools in the country – and continue to be year after year.

School sport magazine

The secret of our success is simple. Guildford High School pupils enjoy competing in sport with a depth of passion, commitment and determination that is plain to see. They embrace their sporting journeys at all levels of competition, with an enthusiastic desire to win. The overall effect is extraordinary consistency across the board.

Netball

GHS has been proudly represented this year at the World Netball Games. Our U17 team competed fiercely against 30 schools from six countries and three continents and came home holding the cup as World Netball Champions!

Lacrosse

Our First Lacrosse team has been extremely busy, making it to the semi-final of the South Schools tournament. They also competed in the School Challenge Cup where they were named Champions. This is a prestigious competition involving the top eight schools in the country which are ranked from last year’s National School results.

Gymnastics

Our Gymnastics squads have excelled themselves and achieved outstanding results. At this year’s Independent Schools Gymnastics Association (ISGA) championships we took home 11 trophies and were awarded the third highest scoring school nationally.

Athletics

Numerous individual athletes performed outstandingly well throughout last summer season. The ESAA National Finals saw huge success where our U13 athletes achieved a fantastic second place finish and the Inter team were crowned National Team Champions for the second year in a row!

Cricket

We have 17 cricket teams who regularly play friendly block fixtures, with many teams entering the Surrey School Hardball Cup this year. The U14s reached the semi-finals and are showing great promise!

Tennis

In tennis, a number of pupils are achieving success at local, regional and national tournaments. Our U15 team played excellent tennis at Surrey League Finals and came home with the Silver medal. We also had great representation at the Surrey Tennis Festival, where a number of singles and doubles games were played on grass and clay, with two bronze positions realised in the finals.

Swimming

Our Guildford High School Swim squad, comprising over 75 girls, maintained their unbeaten record of 16 years in the Inter-schools Galas.

Cross Country

GHS is enjoying one its finest seasons of cross country with phenomenal performances at regional and national levels. Tremendous running at the ESAA National finals in November by all three qualifying teams resulted in GHS being crowned Junior girls and Inter girls team and individual national champions. This is a simply spectacular result in the finals of a competition which began earlier in the year with more than 1600 schools taking part.

Whilst achievements in these main curricular sports have been tremendous, notable success is also been achieved in other areas including badminton, biathlon, dance, fencing, golf, horse riding, rowing and ski racing.
