Sporting achievements

During the academic year 2019-20 our school sports teams have continued to aim high and yet again, for the seventh consecutive year, we have been named top girls’ school for sporting attainment in the national School Sport magazine.

They are the most successful sporting girls’ school in the country – and continue to be year after year.

The secret of our success is simple. Guildford High School pupils enjoy competing in sport with a depth of passion, commitment and determination that is plain to see. They embrace their sporting journeys at all levels of competition, with an enthusiastic desire to win. The overall effect is extraordinary consistency across the board.

Our skillful Netball teams were crowned Surrey Champions in five out of seven age groups last year. Our Under 15 team were named our own school ‘Team of the Year’ after their additional triumph of reaching the national final of the prestigious Independent Schools Netball Cup (ISNC) tournament.

Our Lacrosse teams enjoyed another successful season last year. Three out of five age groups won their Surrey tournaments and this was followed by an impressively consistent performance at the National Schools Championships.

Our Gymnastics squads have excelled themselves and achieved higher national rankings than ever before. At this year’s Independent Schools Gymnastics Association (ISGA) championships, every age group competing for our school stepped onto the podium to collect a team or individual medal.

Numerous individual athletes performed outstandingly well throughout last summer season. Our U13 athletes achieved a fantastic third place finish at the ESAA National Finals.

In tennis, a number of pupils are achieving success at local, regional and national tournaments. Our U13 team won the Surrey Festival and went on to become U13 Independent Schools Tennis Association Finalists and Plate winners. Two other age groups recently made their way through to the Surrey League finals, with the U12’s distinguishing themselves as close runners-up.

Our Guildford High School Swim squad, comprising over 75 girls, maintained their unbeaten record of 16 years in the Inter-schools Galas.

Whilst achievements in these main curricular sports have been tremendous, notable success has also been achieved in other areas including badminton, biathlon, cross-country, dance, fencing, golf, horse riding, rowing and ski racing.
