EPQ

Research forms an essential part of study at Guildford High School in Sixth Form.

We offer the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) as part of our Sixth Form curriculum. The EPQ is a standalone qualification offering students an opportunity to extend and develop their skills in independent research and project management. The EPQ is awarded UCAS points worth half an A Level and the skills gained are highly sought-after by the world’s top universities and invaluable for undergraduate study.

By taking responsibility for the choice and design of an individual project, students become more critical, reflective and independent learners.

Dr Ewan Laurie, Director of Research

The EPQ requires students to carry out research on a topic that they have chosen and is not covered by their other qualifications. They then use this research to produce a written report and, in the case of practical projects, an artefact or a production. A student can take inspiration from something studied in class or something completely unrelated to their studies.
