Year 10 visit Tate Britain

Our Year 10 Art pupils visited Tate Britain to launch their new GCSE coursework project ‘Ordinary/Extraordinary’. They recorded many artists at the gallery with its wealth of contrasting subject matter through photography and sketching from first-hand observation. This provides essential inspiration for their lessons as they explore new practitioners to inspire their individual pathways. The students visited the specialist exhibition ‘Women in Revolt’ that documented the struggles of women through the 70s, 80s and 90s. The voice of female artists was strong from the start with some having never been exhibited before. Protest and freedom were dominant themes throughout, and our art students were able to project their own interpretations onto the work and raise important questions of identity and representation.
