Tree Planting in the garden

Dr Ewan Laurie, (Assistant Head – Academic Enrichment) was delighted to deliver an assembly in the Junior School about the story of ‘The Man Who Planted Trees’ and to talk about the wider value of trees. He was joined by girls from Years 1, 3 and 5 who helped plant Hawthorn, Rowan, Oak and Hazel trees in the school garden, to help create hedging to improve the biodiversity of the school site.

Dr Laurie was impressed by the enthusiasm and tenacity of the girls, especially as the weather was less than ideal. This year’s tree planting week will take the total number of new trees planted on site to almost 800 and the school will not stop there. We have also earnt more points on our journey towards the Silver Award of the Woodland Trust’s Green Tree Schools Award, having earned the Bronze Award last year. There has never been a better time to make space for nature by planting trees and other hedging plants, so if you feel that this is something you have space for and would like to do at home, do visit the Woodland Trust website for advice about where, how and what to plant: https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/plant-trees/advice/ .
