Michaelmas Term Junior Sports Roundup
Gymnastics
Our U9 and U11 gymnasts competed at Surrey Tumbling. The U9 girls placed 3rd and the U11 in 4th. Additionally, the girls enjoyed a 2-piece competition at Tormead this term. The U9 team came in 1st place, with Lucy in individual 2nd and Tilly 3rd. U10 and U11 placed 2nd, with Leila individual 3rd.
In November the U9 Squad Gymnasts competed at the ISGA Gym qualifiers at Haberdasher Boys School. Girls put in great performances. The team were crowned champions and well-done Tilly for being the individual champion!
At the National IAPS Gym Championships. U9’s were crowned Team Champions with the U10’s finishing in 4th and U11 finishing in 3rd overall. In addition, GHS also secured several individual podium results across the three age groups.
This term our Years 4-6 attended the U10&U12 Gymnastics Festival at Prior’s field school. The festival is an excellent opportunity for our keen Gymnasts, who do not train with Squad, to experience a formal competition. Congratulations to Alessandra and Audrey for winning bronze medals in floor. Well done to Connie, Florence, Aimee, Rebecca, Cecilia, Avni, Lexie, Isabel, Octavia, Emily.
Netball
On Wednesday, we hosted our annual U11 Invitational Netball event for school including Hoe Bridge, Halstead Prep, St Catherine’s, Rydes Hill, Tormead and St Ives. The GHS A team topped their group in the preliminary stages without losing a game, they went on to finish 4th overall. We are so proud of the B team for finishing 9th in an ‘A’ string tournament. It was great to have so many parent supporters and so much versatile talent on show!
December started with our U10 A, B &C Netball teams taking part in the GHS U10 Invitational tournament. Despite very cold conditions once the sun went down there was some outstanding Netball on show. Both the A and B team finished 3rd respectively in their competitions.
Cross Country
The U10 & U11 Cross-Country team continued the ‘run’ of success at the Annual Priors Field team Cross-Country competition. Year 6 team (Sophie, Chloe, Isabel, Olivia & Eliza) took home silver medals with the second lowest combined score on the day and the U10’s (Sienna, Beth, Emily, Hilary, Elisa & Sophie) claimed the gold with an impressive score of just 16 (1st, 3rd, 5th, & 7th).
Aquathlon
Girls from Years 3-6 took part in the GHS annual Aquathlon with some outstanding podium results across all categories. Girls were rapid in the pool and despite dodging rainstorms took to the running track with tenacity. Year 3 Bronze: Team 2nd, Hattie individual 2nd. Year 4 Bronze: Team 2nd. Year 4 Silver: Team 1st, Jocelyn 1st Individual, Emily 2nd Individual, Emmy 3rd Individual. Year 5 Gold: Team 1st, Emily 1st Individual. Year 6 Gold: Team 1st, Isabel 1st Individual, Chloe 3rd Individual.
Skiing
Our U12 GHS Ski team did some fantastic skiing at ESSKIa races. Girls placed 1st and are off to National finals. A huge well done to Audrey and Robin in Year 5, and Olivia in Year 6 for their amazing efforts! Great racing girls.
Our Year 6 team competed at the National Schools Indoor Champs at Hemel Hempstead snow dome! All girls skied two clean runs which was a great achievement. The team came 4th Nationally with individual placings for Olivia (10th), Aimee (20th), Georgina (24th), and Corliss (26th). Great work girls.
Also, this term our U8-U11 ski team attended the Surrey Schools Ski Racing. We are pleased to announce that Georgina, Olivia, Alex, Robin, Aliena and Aimee are Female Champions! Our Primary Senior Girls team (Georgina, Olivia, Aimee and Robin) also came first in their age category. Our Primary Junior Girls (Aliena & Alex) came 3rd. Alex (Year 3) placed individual 3rd fastest in the Primary Junior Girls.
