Finalists at the English Speaking Union’s Churchill Public Speaking Competition

A GHS team of Sanika, Hanhan and Mahika competed in the final of the Southern Section of the English Speaking Union’s ESU – Churchill Public Speaking Competition at St Catherine’s. The team performed impressively against teams made up predominantly of pupils in Years 10 and 11. Sanika won the individual award for best speaker on her subject of “the simplest explanation is the best explanation”, and Hanhan won the individual award for best chair. Overall, the team were runners-up, thereby just missing out on a place at the national final at Churchill College, Cambridge in May. Nevertheless, an outstanding achievement to have got this far and to have acquitted themselves so well in this regional final.
