Art and Classics collaborative trip to the British Museum
The Art and Classics departments organised a day trip for all pupils in Year 9 to visit the British Museum in London on Monday 5 February 2024. The pupils completed a number of workshops, where they focused on the history, stories, art, and architecture of ancient Greece. They enjoyed drawing the Elgin Marbles from first-hand observation and contemplating the contentious and political debate as to whether they should remain in the British Museum or be returned to Greece. They explored the red and black figure Greek vases, alongside learning about ancient Greek life. The atrium offered the full vista of Norman Foster’s beautiful contemporary roof that encloses the great court, juxtaposing classical architecture with the original building.
