Social Action Group
A group of pupils from Year 7 and 8 worked together throughout the year to create real change as part of the United Learning Social Action Programme, an initiative that is designed to develop student leadership and support young people in taking action to make positive change in their communities.
Their Social Action group, eventually named Green Horizons, explored what meaningful change might look like within our own school grounds. After careful consideration, they decided to set out to transform part of the GHS garden, aiming to improve biodiversity and create a space for reflection, wellbeing and wildlife. A highlight was the creation of the Willow Den, which involved direction from expert weaver, Natalie, who helped the group to flex and bend the willows into shape.
Shortly after planting day, the group had a trip to Oxford University to present their project to the other United Learning schools involved. It was a display of confidence, excellent oracy and real passion, showcasing the hard work they had put in through the year. We are very proud of our pupils and of our GHS garden.
