Pastoral Care

Junior School is a happy community in which girls feel valued and confident.  In the caring, nurturing environment which we offer our pupils, we strive to help girls build successful friendships and relationships with their peer groups and adults.  Form teachers and teaching assistants (in Key Stage 1) play a key role in spending time with the girls, listening and responding to individual needs so that each pupil has the guidance and care she requires. Teachers are vigilant in ensuring the girls feel secure, relaxed and nurtured at school.  A school counsellor is available for pupils if parents feel that additional support would be beneficial.  We run a peer mediation scheme which encourages pupils to use listening and negotiating skills to resolve any small difficulties.  Teams of Peer Mediators take responsibility for happy playtimes on a rota basis throughout the term.

We create a culture of praise and encouragement, rewarding good behavior, consideration for others and kindness.

From the youngest ages girls are encouraged to learn about responsibility and can represent their form in a variety of ways, such as on the School Council and the Green Team.  Leadership skills and levels of responsibility are developed as the girls progress through school and Year 6 girls all have prefectorial duties and take on important roles such as being House Captains.
