Alumni spotlight: Environmental consultant Nisha extols the benefits of extracurricular

This spotlight features Nisha, Class of 2016, who is now working as an environmental consultant at Earth Active, and shares some insight into her journey since leaving GHS.

A Levels: Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics

Degree: Integrated Masters in Environmental Sciences at the University of York

Job: Environmental, Social, Governance Consultant at Earth Active

Pathway: My passion for the environment started with my summer job as a surf instructor where I got involved in community beach cleans and local marine conservation groups. When I graduated, I spotted through a contact on LinkedIn that my now boss had just started a new ESG consulting firm and was looking to grow the business. So, I reached out with a cover letter and CV, and I have now been with the company for 3 years.

Word from the Wise: Get involved in extra-curricular, enrichment opportunities. Whilst the degree is important and I am pleased to say my degree was relevant for my job; I think my most valuable skills that I have taken into the workplace have come from getting involved in many sports clubs and being on the committees whilst I was at university. Whatever your hobbies or interests are, there will be a society for it. It’s a great way to meet friends and getting involved in the running of those societies will provide you with many skills that are valued by employers.
