Virtual celebration of Sports 2020

This year girls were able to enjoy not just one Sports Day but the chance to compete and score valuable points for their House on a weekly basis. Whilst Pre-Prep girls worked hard to score for their House and be in with the chance to win a medal sticker, Years 2 -6 enjoyed five virtual events over the last half term which involved a variety of physical challenges.

Girls have been trying to air-cycle from London to Brighton, climb enough stairs to reach the top of The Shard and even try to take enough steps to climb Everest. However, their most exciting challenge was to try and beat their teachers in an “as many rounds as possible” fitness challenge. Each week they have diligently uploaded their top scores to Showbie for the PE team to collate, and we have loved celebrating individual winners and leading Houses from each year group.

In July we held a day of online sporting workout workshops lead by the GHS PE staff. We had a huge number of girls from all year groups tune in live to HIIT, Boxfit, Skipping and Yoga sessions and no doubt some of our amazing parents gave the sessions a good go too! Thank you to everyone who ‘tuned in’ live to our results ceremony at the end of the day, each and every Junior School girl has made a significant contribution to her House total during this event and it was wonderful to be able to celebrate their success.

Congratulations to Abbot House who ran, jumped and threw their way to victory this year in the Pre-Prep sporting antics and a further congratulations to Watts House on lifting the Sports Day trophy for KS2. Well done to all our individual athletes on their podium finishes.
