Every year GHS hosts its annual Shakefest. This takes place in the autumn and involves every pupil in Year 8 and Year 9. The event runs for two days and pupils are split into form groups or Houses, with each form group/House given an abridged version of a Shakespeare play to stage. This is an important event in the school calendar as it allows our younger pupils to see Shakespeare as a text to be performed and admired rather than something dry on the page. The main hall is set up ready for the pupils and they have lighting, curtains and sound to make each performance as professional as possible. It is wonderful seeing pupils embrace the texts and work as a team; every year we are amazed by the hard work and talent that goes into producing and bringing new meaning to the plays. Congratulations to all who took part this year.
