Gym and Dance Display 2022

Our Sports Centre is rarely a quiet place. There could be cheering from the sideline during a match, praise for an excellent practice session after school or pupils excitedly chatting about their team or club. The sports department are a dedicated team who strive to encourage every pupil to participate and enjoy sporting activity, whether that be for competition, health or purely fun and recreation. What better way to represent this than the Junior School Gym and Dance Display; a day full of music, cheer and fun, as all 270 pupils from the Junior School take part.

Every year, the Junior School sports department work with each year group to compose a sequence to the theme of what they’re learning in humanities. The annual event is a great opportunity to present the skills the girls have been developing throughout the term and how they apply it to topics from the classroom through movement.

The day started with Pre-Prep as they rose to the challenge in front of an adoring audience. Reception pupils transformed into tiny minibeasts, crawling, and buzzing around the mat; Year 1 and 2 performed some impressive balance block displays. A memorable moment for the girls was a very impressive display from their PE teachers – even Mr Williamson took part! The highlight of the morning was the showcase finale. Teachers, pupils, and parents danced, sung and celebrated the pupils’ hard work. It was delightful to see so many of our school community join together and embrace the moment.

After a rather energetic morning, it was time for KS2 to perform. They stepped up to the mat, ready and waiting to turn into fearless Roman Warfare and bouncing Rio Carnival dancers in two exciting performances. Members of the Gym Squad also performed sequences ahead of their upcoming competitions. As the performances finished and the clapping resided, one thing the girls were itching to know was who had won the Inter-House Gym Competition? Well done to Abbott for sneaking the win in what was a very close competition! A truly enjoyable day had by all and a wonderful way to round off this half term.
