Careers and Higher Education

From an early stage, every girl benefits from individual support from a team of highly experienced staff, complemented by a dynamic events programme which is outlined below.

Years 7-10

In the lower years, events and activities are organised so that girls can consider what life after school can bring in a fun and relaxed environment:

• The annual ‘Take Your Daughters To Work Day’ is always enjoyed by the Year 8 girls.
• Year 9 and 10 girls have had a great time discovering their inner-entrepreneur at some challenging fun-filled activity days organised by IBM and BP.
• When girls reach Year 9, we provide a full personalised support programme to aid them in making their GCSE option choices.

Years 11-Sixth Form

Our guidance starts to focus more heavily on Higher Education:

• In Year 11, we team careers aptitude testing with discussions on AS choices to provide a fully-integrated start to our Higher Education programme.
• Year 11 Work Experience Week takes place after GCSE examinations. Many girls use their own contacts but we also help girls when finding a placement in a career that they might be interested in pursuing.
• We start to assist girls in considering Higher Education plans in the Lent Term of Lower Sixth where we hold a Higher Education Fair followed by an evening for pupils and parents. For more information on the support we offer to the Sixth form, please visit our Moving On page.

Careers Programme

In addition to our year-specific guidance and support services, we organise a number of visiting speakers from a variety of industries to come and talk on a regular basis. We often welcome Old Girls and parents to share their professional experiences with the girls. We have also recently launched an exciting new initiative; every Michaelmas and Lent Term we hold an evening Careers Forum - a panel presentation and Q&A from a group of professionals from a specific industry.
